Opera

The show was fantastic - Noye's Fludde (Noah's Flood) - was really amazing.  It was a full on production in San Diego's Symphony Hall.  There was an orchestra that included kids and semi-professional musicians, there were a few ballet dancers (kids) along with about 200 kids playing different animals on the ark.    The main cast were extremely talented high school kids, the other choristers (including the girls) were all different animals with fantastically elaborate masks (which they each designed themselves).  Our girls were yellow birds! The opera was in a very biblical prose which definitely makes memorization more difficult for the kids, but this was the wish of the composer.  Check out this links:

I did an extensive search on youtube and there was a lot of video but NONE of the productions were as elaborate and impressive as what I saw today.  Since Friday the girls have spent 11 hours on rehearsals and then the performance.  Quite a task for little kids, but great organization and strong parental involvement (which I feel lucky to be part of) really helped pull this off.  I hope you can all make it to next years season finale!

Adventures

Today we are downtown for the girls opera. because of a marathon many roads were closed and I wanted take them out to eat right before
rehersal so we arrived around 10am. We walked for awhile and had a bite at a greasy spoon.

Rehersal was at noon and the show is not until 3 so I started walking and before I knew it bear was asleep in the stroller and rusty was looking tired so I put on my ergo carrier and tossed Russell in. He fell asleep smiling. Both boys slept about an hour while I walked around the streets of San Diego. I got some odd looks having a three year old strapped to my chest, but I was so glad to get them to nap! I hope this results in better behavior at the show...I will let y'all know!

Ziggy had a play date!

Ziggy had a play date with a puppy friend today.  Ziggy is 60 lbs and full grown, and Titus is 35 lbs and 5 months old - yikes!
He was certainly more calm than the puppy, but he enjoying playing.  They also had a siamese cat that wasn't scared of him at all and he was fascinated!  Ziggy is on the left :)

New Orleans so far….

Here are some pics of my journey to New Orleans so far. I am currently living in Harvey which is a suburb of New Orleans and about a 30 dollar cab ride to Bourbon street, which is not bad when the cost is split between three buddies.

This is driving over the New Orleans Bridge to get to the city, at least that’s what the cabbie told us it was called.

As we entered town….

Grits at Mcdonalds is only a dollar……

IMAG0715IMAG0716

This is already on Bourbon Street we got there early in the day around 7 to 8 pm, I guess it does not get crazy until 2 am when people start to show up it was crazy enough for me though already even during the day….

IMAG0717IMAG0718

First place we stopped at that had a balcony we could sit at that over looked Bourbon Street, this street was later blocked off from all traffic, not smart to try to drive downtown New Orleans at night.

Hot dog stand was selling hot dogs for 6 dollars each.

Crowded….this was the intersection between Canal and Bourbon St.

Homer! I wish I took more pics but as the night dragged on I was pretty much overwhelmed by everything, I took some video but am unable to get it off my phone camera and on to the blog, maybe Jen can help me out, but this all for now. I have to say I feel like I am getting to old for this s&^t it was just so overwhelming to be surrounded by people and loudness and drunken mayhem, I can only imagine what its like during Mardi Gras. On a off day like today it was crazy enough for me. I will continue to try to get the video on here, although it too was taken mostly during the day.
